The deathbed audit
A Targeted Inquiry for discerning what matters most, in which we bring the deathbed test into the present moment.
I would recommend this for anyone who feels stuck, complacent, or imprisoned in their current job or business. This process is intense, but it can be an emotional pattern interrupt that snaps you awake, and gives you clarity on how to align your life with what you value most at your core.
Basic steps for inquiry sessions
- Review the instructions for Targeted Inquiry
- Choose either Freewriting or Freespeaking for your session
- Review the questions and prompts below
- Set a timer for 10-20 minutes
- Dump out everything that comes to mind in relation to the prompts. No stopping until the time's up.

Instructions & Prompts for Deathbed Audit
Imagine that today is your last day on earth. You're out of time, and are about to pass gently into that good night. Truly imagine it. Put yourself in this scenario, and feel it fully.
Set a timer for 10 minutes. Read over the following prompts, and start freewriting or freespeaking. Don't stop to think. Just let the ideas flow.
- What do you regret having done or said?
- What do you regret not having done or said?
- What do you wish you spent more time on?
- What do you wish you spent less time on?
- If you could start all over, what would you prioritize?
I highly recommend a Resonance Review after this one. Look for places where the regret truly breaks your heart. Feel all of the uncomfortable emotions. Feel the heartbreak all the way. Mourn it, and cry if you have to. Let it out. And then, once you've felt all the heavy shit, notice how you feel in your body and heart. Are you a little lighter? Can you see clearly what's next?
And most importantly, can you forgive your past self? This exercise runs the risk of you feeling resentful and angry for not having been true to yourself. But if you stay in that place of resentment, you're less likely to be able to follow your dreams going forward. Self-compassion and forgiveness are the keys that unlock Deep Okayness, and help you create a more beautiful future.
